Emergence
I need to escape this hospital routine.
I know I must run on their timetable.
I know that it’s necessary for
There is so much for them to do.
They must be excused.
But it is not my timetable.
I am often chided for not adhering
To my circadian rhythm
And the way I am disrupting it.
My rhythm is more cicada-like in nature,
Not circadian.
I only show up periodically,
A persistently bad penny
That will not go away.
I don’t respond to other’s schedules
And efforts to make it so
Will frustrate all parties involved.
So let me be
And reappear when I will,
Be it a week from now
Or seven years hence.
