Come Walk With Me
As the world measures such things,
It will be a very short walk
As I near that final step.
I have stumbled down darkened trails
Lined with dangerous things.
I’ve succumbed to many of them,
Embraced them with loving arms
Knowing they were doing me great harm.
I was invincible in the here-and-now
With no thought for there-and-then
Nor for what was yet to come.
But all sins come back to haunt us
No matter how fast we run,
No matter where we choose to hide.
But now, in this hour,
I need a hand to hold,
To sooth my brow and
Wipe away my tears,
To guide me when I wander
And catch me when I fall.
I need someone to walk with me
And see me safely home.
