DMZ

DMZ

We have come to an awkward place,

A North/South Korea moment where

No one has claimed victory

Yet no one has admitted defeat,

An awkward and stressful moment

That now demands a resolution.

My DMZ is this kitchen table

Where victories are declared in stare-downs

And brief moments of interregnum.

The cost of coming to this peace table

Is the surrender of certain doctrines,

I won’t call them principles,

That I decline to follow

Any longer.

If surrender is not possible

Then a willingness to negotiate

Would certainly be nice.
