Round & Round. (part 2)
It was a most chaotic trip begun so gently
Easing slowly into the wind
Cooling the sweat on a sunbaked brow.
Then round and round with gathering speed
Till hats flew off and curls came all undone.
I was on a carnival ride that would not stop.
We gasped.
We laughed.
Then we screamed.
Round and round and round again
As if, in going round once more,
You could catch your scream
As it left your mouth.
Boards rattled and clattered beneath our feet
Tears streamed and teeth chattered
In a most alarming fashion.
Neon beasts danced, then pranced then raced
Around and around bearing riders along
Forever one step behind the one in front.
Calliope notes hoot and bellow with steamy breath
As colours flash by in a cotton candy stream
Where sound and light become one
And popcorn waves drift on the air.
We gasped.
We laughed.
Then we screamed.
Caught on a carnival ride
that will not stop.
