My Only Political Statement

I fear that my moral compass has shifted.

There has been a subtle seismic tremor

In the bedrock of my beliefs,

Not meaning to discredit them,

But to acknowledge 

That some rules have changed.

The structure of my beliefs is intact.

It is the foundation that is called into question.

I had refused to acknowledge that morality 

Had a lowest common denominator.

I was swept up in a wave of egalitarianism

And kumbya-we-shall-overcome brotherhood

Whose time, I believed, had come.

Now, I am forced to admit, 

It was not so.
