Maddy

Maddy

Once upon a distant time

I madly loved with you.

Other golden-voiced artists

With honey or fire on their tongues

Seemed singing just for me.

Of them all

Your voice caught my bohemian ear.

It appealed to the personna I was crafting,

Exotic enough to be interesting

But not so strange as to repel.

The voice,

The voice became another instrument.

Words were incidental to the voice.

The voice conjured images of

Medieval fairs and Maypoles,

Fluttering penants,

Children shouting and jousting in the lists.

And Maddy

A face from another time and place

All drawn together in a song.

I have fallen in love with a song

And a picture on an album cover.

How many times have I been drawn

To just a song and an image,

To little more than my own imagination

And what I make of it.

At least once.
