Tyranny

Why am I so bedevilled?
This tyranny of the “First Person”
Frustrates all my efforts.
I cannot stop talking about “Me”.
When my intent was to talk about you.
I suffer from the conceit of “Me”.
It seems a universal failing and a curse
Of mankind that
I cannot overcome.
The limits of “First person”.
Separate “You and Me”.
The world as seen through my blue-grey eyes
Is coloured by the influence of experience
And the perspective of time.
I assemble and reassemble the puzzle pieces,
Not always in their original positions
Yet I endeavor to make them fit.
But, no matter.
There are glaring gaps
And pieces left over or missing.
The picture slowly morphs,
But from a distance
It doesn’t seem to matter
If you gain enough distance.
Sic Semper Tyrannis.
