No Odysseus

No Odysseus

I am swept along on a frothy gyre
Of sparking synapses and pulsing neurons.
I spin helpless before the maelstrom
That I created,
Now bound to my mast
I steer a course past Scilla.
I ward off Charybdis
And fend off the Harpies

I endure the Sirens

As their songs lure me with promises

Only to find myself here.
Only here.

Just here.
But why here?
I brought it on myself.
I dared to stand too close
I heeded no warnings
I dared too much.
My reach exceeded my grasp
And I fell.
No Odysseus here

But an Icarus
