What appears as an attempt to obscure
Is really an attempt to reveal.
These lines guide by misdirection
And lead with double entendres.
I juxtapose and interpose,
I transpose, expose and compose,
I propose many things
I oppose many more
And dispose of the rest.
You’ve heard it all before
But I want to tell it differently.
Is what I do trickery, sleight of hand
Or real magic?
Is it all a game of misdirection and mirrors ?
I speak in strange incantations
Like Hecate bent over a noxious potion,
Stirring, ever stirring
To lure you with my vision.
Is it an Escher print of odd perspective
Going round and round
To end at the beginning?
Maybe all these things
Dusted with a thin coat
Of magic.
What is this magic?
It is a love of language
And the desire to express it
In unfamiliar terms
To better comprehend.
It is the ability to successfully share
A thought, or thing, or concept
With another.
How?
I take my subject upside down
And shake it.
What falls out is a new perspective
A new insight,
A different way of seeing
The familiar in a new light.
The cane becomes a bouquet.
The rabbit vanishes in a top hat.
All is obscured until
The grand reveal.
