Your Hand

Your Hand

Once, my love

You Gave me your hand.

Now, just these images remain

Of faded hope and sorrow.

How I mourn that presence,

Feel the rush and the glow,

Swept me through, upheld the dark days.

Never ending, but , , ,

Like birds swept up, away to warmer climes,

Fled with changing seasons,

Relentless, ever passing one to each.

Long awaiting, anticipating return.

Time too long denied,

A faded hope, a failed dream.

Once, my love

You gave me your hand.

Now, just these images remain.

A lento waltz drifting in a misty past

Sustaining days else made drear.

Fragment of a fading memory,

Touching on the edge of this day, or that.

Is that love’s lesson,

To have, to hold, then let drift,

Awash in what might have been?

Just an ember’s eye in cold grey ash.

Once my love

You gave me your hand.

Now, just these images remain.
