Etude

The mask I wear upon my face
The mask that oft I show
So swift and then erase
Hiding grief and tearful woe
Lasts but brief seconds
Tracing bitter tears
Casting faint beacons
Of ghostly light and hidden fears.
An inner light’s faint eerie glow
Passes on to banish gloom
Rising from the depths below
That hastens to announce our doom.
And so advance not once but twice
Come marching proud silver’d knights
Doing battle not twice but thrice
To hold aloft their shining lights.
