Stone Upon Stone
Striving, ever reaching to make that spiritual leap.
From earthly clay to heavenly heights.
With these simple tools of words:
A task, a challenge, a goal
That seems forever beyond reach.
I want to paint. I want to sculpt. I want to sing.
I weep in frustration.
Piling stone upon stone,
Note upon note,
Colour after colour splashed on canvas.
In vain attempts to rival the masters.
My hands fall in futility at the task.
I want to touch the sublime,
Breathe ethereal airs,
Glimpse the realm of angels,
To tell the story of what I hear, see, sense.
All is vanity and futility.
I am compelled to try again and again.
To convey what I know to be true and real,
To bring a vision to life.
With the tools that I have.
