Encounter

I fell into a trap
One laid with care and cunning
One set by a master in the art of snares
More cunning than the oblivious prey
And practiced in deception.
I walked right in
Eyes wide shut and unaware
As blithely as any mouse
Who senses cheese but cannot see
The danger in that coiled spring.
Blinded and unsuspecting
And going about my usual day
The sun shone warm and brightly
Nothing to hint of impending doom
Steel jaws gaping open wide.
The trap was laid
The trap was set
The trap was sprung
My spouse approached and said
“Let’s talk”.
