The Greater Magician
Who is the greater magician,
God or Darwin?
God, now that his work is done,
Seems impotent to affect
The world that He created,
No amount of adoration
Can influence or answer prayer,
Or move a mountain,
Or make good on all his visions
And promises.
God is on sabbatical,
Gone off to trouble other souls
In other universes.
Chaos reigns and hatred spreads
It’s sinewy tendrils through all things.
God’s handiwork decays,
Yet Darwin’s work carries on,
His signature imprinted
On all things.
