Shallow Waters
I have listened and I have attended.
I have tried to follow in your wake,
But you speak only words
That others feed you
Offering nothing of yourself.
There is no depth to your replies
And they lack consideration or examination.
Your words lie flat on the surface,
An oil slick of message lacking content,
Occasionally seeming brilliant in the sun,
A gaudy rainbow where none should be
Yet soap-bubble thin.
You speak in a language of catchphrases
Laced with occasional cant
And no conviction in your words
Because it is easy.
You are a broken record of grievance
That sounds a bitter refrain.
I can no longer listen.
