Therefore
It is dangerous to be left alone
When entertaining such maddening thoughts
And enduring such grand-mal seizures of fantasy.
I might end up anywhere
At the whim of a errant synapse.
I am not so much concerned for myself,
But there may be some collateral damage.
Those moments when
Some shiny thing catches my eye
Or kidnaps my imagination
Are not really the problem.
Indeed, they are quite delightful.
It’s the transition that I find so alarming.
It’s the transition that I find so jarring.
It’s the transition that troubles me.
Paradoxically,
It is when I am left alone
That a semblance of linear thought occurs
And I am able to gather the fragments
Into some approximate order.
Ergo,
It is least dangerous to be left alone.
