Chemistry
Running for the shelter
Of your mother’s little helper
Is my shelter any different than yours?
I lean on chemistry and good intentions
To see me through my day.
They are co-dependent,
Equal in status
And serve a similar purpose.
Chemistry is the grease
That smooths the edges
That allows for growth
Of good intentions.
Good intentions ease my conscience
And mitigate ensuing evil.
Good intentions justify many cruelties
But they let me sleep at night.
