Half & Half
Half of what I said was true
And the other half was lies.
There was no one there
To judge the fact
And say which one was which,
To call me out and make me dance
In payment for my ruse.
So half was lies and half was truths
And I simply did not care.
Together they were complete
And I washed my hands
Of the whole affair.
Your pardon, please, for being so obtuse
But honesty demands I make an effort
And, having tried,
I’ll leave it there,
Gathering up dropped stitches
As I go.
