Skipping Stones
Just the right angle.
Just the right shape.
Just the right spin.
Just the right force.
This stone will dance across the water
A frog leaping lily pad to lily pad
Marking the water’s mirrored-face with rippling stars
Until all inertia and forward momentum is spent
And it sinks as nature and physics
Intended a stone to do.
A child can do it,
Even a frog ….
Ideas are like stones.
So why can’t I send ideas
Out across the water?
Yet I’ve seen so many sink below the surface
Kissing the water just once
Before gravity exerts its will
And Newton is vindicated.
I must take more care of the shape,
The angles, the texture,
The weight of each stone,
The water and the weather
And the strength of the thrower to cast it.
Ideas in my head
Skipping across the water.
