Remember The 60’s? *
As the old saying goes,
“If you remember the 60’s,
Then you probably weren’t there”.
That may be so.
Much of the 60’s took place
Somewhere else,
Certainly not where it was supposed to.
It took place in a fantasy world
Conjured up by ad-men, movie producers,
And magazine editors.
Here and Now were just too passé.
If you went where the 60’s led
You could end up in Disneyland, Liverpool,
Hollywood, or Viet Nam.
Wherever you went, it was chaotic,
It was there.
It was not here.
Here was mind-numbing,
There was mind-altering.
“I’ve changed my mind”
Took on new meaning
And a phrase not to be taken lightly.
They were Oh, So Serious,
Forgetting about the Mystics,
The lotus eaters,
The minstrels and the bards
The Romantic-era dilettantes
The Bohemians and the Beats.
Reality was boring
With time on our hands
But not on our side,
Remember the 60s?
I remember most of it
But not all.
I was there.
