A Cradle Lullaby

A Cradle Lullaby
Hush, hush my little one
No more tears and no more fears.
These four walls and my embrace
Will dry your desperate, frantic tears.
I am here to keep you safe.
None will raise a threatening hand.
The raging storm beyond the hills
Is kept at bay, will not come nigh
For I will keep you from all ills
I am here to keep you safe.
No wind will stir your silken hair
No rain will touch your tender head.
No frown will darken brow so fair
Nor cast a shadow on your bed.
I am here to keep you safe.
You came into this world of woe
Amid much tumult, cries and pain.
Then swept up to your mother’s breast
And sung this gentle sweet refrain.
I am here to keep you safe.
Nightly terrors laid aside
Cradled in your mother’s arm.
Then passed to me I made this vow
To shelter you from every harm.
I am here to keep you safe.
I gazed in wonder on your face
And marvelled at your perfect form
I held you gently while you slept
Soothed and sheltered from the storm.
I am here to keep you safe.
Now I must make good that vow
Put aside my wayward life
Dedicate my days to you
Shelter you from every strife.
I am here to keep you safe.
